Gin & Tonic…

The perfect G&T Cocktail

There are 2 reasons why I thought I’d write about this – one is because Saturday 13th June was apparently World Gin Day!! Whoever thought of such a thing…?

Anyway, I am a particular fan of a good G&T, and it’s my “cocktail” of choice whenever I’m offered a pre-dinner drink. I like it with lemon, but I also like it with a slice of lime. I’ve not spent a lot of time experimenting with different brands of gin, but I usually go for a London or Dry gin (and often choose the cheapest in the shops – although Gordon’s tends to be the favoured option). Another one I like is Bombay Sapphire – it’s in a gorgeous bottle, but it also has a really nice flavour – even to drink it neat!

Now to get on with the other reason why this is an interesting topic for us…

Alternative gin options

Our choice of gins, plus a London Dry Gin

Bombay Sapphire is made using water from Lake Vyrnwy. Ahh, so now you understand the link. I was flabbergasted to learn this – why on earth would a company use that water…? Well, it turns out that originally the company started in Warrington, so as Lake Vyrnwy was created for the Liverpool Corporation, it all made sense. (For more info on that, head over to the lake website.)

The other really spooky thing about this is that the all-new location for Bombay Sapphire distillery is just up the road from where we used to live in Hampshire, at Laverstoke Mill. They offer tours of the place – one day I’ll get to go on one. I admired the buildings for years driving past on my way to work, so it is a delight that it’s been saved and turned into something really beautiful. So, another uncanny link!

Alternatively, being as we’re living in Wales, you could also choose the Welsh Seaweed Gin, which comes from Dà Mhìle Distillery, based in Ceredigion. We offer these on our drinks list. Why not try one next time you stay with us….?

That’ll do for now – I’m off to have a G&T out on the patio in the sun – after yesterdays rain, it’s a perfect excuse. What’ll be yours…?
